Manifested Competencies
Throughout the leadership project, several competencies and themes were integrated. Listed below are the ones that stood out to me as fundamental, resonated, and were worthy of continued focus throughout my journey as a developing leader.
Cultural Intelligence
This is an overarching competency and theme throughout the project. This includes how someone can evaluate their motivations, knowledge, strategies, and actions toward increasing their cultural intelligence and effectiveness.
Listening
Listening is imperative as a competency for the effective global leader; there are elements of understanding how to listen within the project's global context. This is the foundation for communication, conflict transformation, and global team leadership.
Conflict Transformation
Conflict, misunderstandings, and communication faux pas are inherent in a team, especially in a global team where cultural differences may not be understood. The project explores how a global leader can transform these underpinnings into potential opportunities for long-lasting and positive outcomes.
Servant Leadership
What does it look like to do the work for a diverse group of individuals across varying locales to be made whole, to grow in autonomy, and to be more likely to serve others? This project explores what servant leadership looks like to the global leader when values may be common to the team, but how they are lived could be different culturally.
Mental Models
The global leader models how to hold their mental models for examination and invite new reasoning, with a goal for team learning. The project provides activities for the leader to create an environment where assumptions can be challenged in a healthy and psychologically safe way.
Generative Learning
The road to generative learning requires a team capable of systems thinking and humility to recognize problems that can arise from the teams’ actions. The project explores how the global leader can cultivate an environment that balances dialogue and discussions when a global team may not have shared cultural norms.
